A Tale of Two Splash Parks

Don Misenheimer Park

We did not have splash parks when I was a kid.  They are the best thing ever.

And Arlington has three.  We visited two this week: California Lane and Don Misenhimer.

The two parks are the same in alot of ways.  In addition to the splash ground, both parks have sports fields, wide open green space, basketball, a little kid playground and a big kid playground.

Neither park has bathrooms.  This is sad.  California Lane has portapotties.  This does not help us because my daughter is terrified of portapotties.

California Lane Park

California Lane has a horseshoe area.  Don Misenhimer has a sandbox.

Both have a pavilion for parties.  But, again, no bathrooms.  Please don’t give children loads of birthday cake and sugary drinks and not provide a bathroom close by.

California Lane Park

Don Misenhimer has a little more shade and seating for the parents.  But at either park, if you sit on your beach towel in the grass, you can find some shade, and you are less likely to get wet if you sit in the grass.

But it’s 100 degrees outside.  Why would you not want to get wet?

Both splash parks are 100% free, and they are perfect for the summer months.  Get some sunscreen and get out to the splash parks.  They are open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and only weekends in September.
